FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Pulley and Luse tie for NRHA Novice Horse Open Championship

The Fiesta in the Park continued in Lexington, Kentucky, with Sean Pulley, Aubrey, Texas, and Cathy Woosley Luse, Gainesville, Texas, tying for the Novice Horse Open Championship.

Cathy, riding Dunnies Prescription (Dun It With A Twist x Chics Sompen), and Sean, riding Stylish Chexinic (Bueno Chexinic x Stylish Alon), each marked a 214.5. The two decided to share the championship, instead of having a run-off, and each received a check for $583.

Dunnies Prescription, a 5-year-old mare owned by Barbara Hunter, Nicholasville, Kentucky, won the 2003 NRHA Intermediate Open Futurity with Cathy’s husband, Van. Cathy, taking over the reins following the Futurity, placed fifth on Dunnies Prescription at the 2004 NRBC in the Limited Open.

Rosanne Sternberg, also of Aubrey, recently purchased Stylish Chexinic from Frank Bolea. Maverick Smith and the gelding made the Intermediate Open Finals at the 2005 NRBC.

The Novice Horse Non Pro followed the Open competition with Shannon Raymond of Ocala, Florida, taking home the win. Shannon rode Moonstone Mega, by Marthas Mega Jac and out of My Lucky Moonstone, to a 218.5 for $570 in earnings. Prior to the Fiesta, Shannon and Moonstone Mega won the Non Pro at both the Wimpys Little Step and Jividen Derbies.

In honor of the Fiesta mixing reining with hunter/jumper events, hunter/jumper show organizers Hugh Kincannon and Robbie Murphy hosted a barbecue at the Steeplechase Barn. The pair generously planned an evening for hunters and reiners to co-mingle while enjoying food, music and volleyball.

The inaugural Fiesta in the Park continues tomorrow at 8 am with the NRHA and AQHA Youth classes and the Limited Non Pro followed by the Celebrity Hunter Reining, Bridle-less Reining and the $5,000 Open. The show runs through Sunday, August 28, at the historic Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.
